Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Jomsom Muktinath is situated North of Pokhara and easily accessible via a short flight from Pokhara. Jomsom is a town situated between two gigantic mountains in the Kali Gandaki Valley, at the bottom of the world’s deepest gorge. From Jomson there are options to walk in either direction along the Circuit — the trek to the holy shrine at Muktinath (Buddhist & Hindu Pilgrimage) is very popular and follows the ancient trade and pilgrimage route across the Himalayas.

Highlights of Jomsom Muktinath Trek: Sunrise and mountains views from Poon Hill; Hot springs at Tatopani; World deepest Kaligandaki Gorge; Typical Thakali village in Tukuche, and Marpha; Monasteries in Tukuche, Marpha, Kagbeni, Jharkot, and Muktinath; eternal frame in Muktinath.

The Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peaks with the icefall in between look very impressive from Kalopani as does Annapurna I, and Nilgiri South. The view of Nilgiri Southstays almost as far down as Tatopani with Annapurna I showing itself once again near Guithe. On the way you pass a magnificent waterfall at Rupse Chhahara.

Tatopani has hot springs by the river, the steep path to Ghorepani from here climbs through a dense forest that, towards the end, is thick with rhododendron trees. Ghorepani has the best view panoramic view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains; from the Poon Hill, 450m/ 1475 ft further up, the vista extends from Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri South to Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. Annapurna South really dominates the panorama and as you descends from Ghorepani to Nayapul, the mountain remains in view as far as Ulleri. From Nayapul, we take an hour drive back to Pokhara.
