Gokyo Renjo-La Pass Trek

This trekking brings you to the Gokyo Lake Valley up the Dudh Kosi river from the Sherpa villages of Namche Bazaar and Khumjung village. From Gokyo Ri (5483m) you can look down on the vast Ngozumpa Glacier and have the great panorama views of four of the world's ten highest peaks Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu.

To make your journey exclusive, we take you to the little visited Renjo-La Pass, which lies at 5390 metres. Three of nine days trekking are completely off-the-beaten-track, and it is well worth the detour. Experience authentic Sherpa culture, relatively untouched by the hustle of tourism in the main circuit. We stay in Sherpa homes in Thamo and Phortse, both stunning villages. The route lies in the highest wildlife reserve in the world, the Sagarmatha National Park. It covers an area of 1,148 square kilometres of Himalayan ecological zone. The park altitudes range from 2,845 metres at Monjo to the top of the world at 8,848 metres.

Day to day Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu.

Meet our representative at the airport who will transfer you to the Hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m) flight and trek to Monjo 3 - hrs.

In the morning you board for a scenic mountain flight to Lukla - a gateway from where the trek begins. The scenic mountain flight about 35 minutes gives you a perfect sight of tremendous Himalayan Range. From Lukla, the trek begins. After breakfast, we trek 2-3 hours to reach the village of Monjo. Overnight at Monjo

  • Day 03: Trek Monjo to Thamo.

After breakfast we trek to Thamo via Namche Bazaar. The trek will be around 5 hours with stopover in Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 04: Trek Thamo to Thame.

This day is meant for acclimatization and hence we do not embark on any serious trekking. Instead we go to a slightly lower altitude of Thame, the birthplace of Tenzing Norgay, the first man on Everest. Spend time exploring the local monastery or simply relax.

  • Day 05: Trek Thame to Lungden.

Today we start our serious high altitude trekking. We walk for about 4 hours across a stunning landscape on an old trade route to Tibet in order to reach the village of Lungden.

  • Day 06: The High Pass: Lungden - Renjo-La - Gokyo.

Early start is essential because it is a long day. It will take roughly 5 hours to reach the pass because the higher altitude will cause slower movement. After a brief rest to enjoy the stunning beauty of the Everest Range and take photographs, we start on a remarkably difficult downhill journey for about 3 hours to reach the village of Gokyo. Before you reach Gokyo you walk along the stunningly beautiful Dudh Kunda (milk lake)

  • Day 07: Gokyo Ri and Return.

The foot of Gokyo Ri lies five minutes from the stream that feeds the Dudh Kunda. After two or three hours of slow moving you reach the summit to be rewarded with fantastic views of Mt. Everest’s (8848m) Northern flank, Makalu (8475m) further to the east, and Cho Oyu (8153m) towards the north. After your camera runs out of film/memory return back down to Gokyo.

  • Day 08: Trek Gokyo to Phortse.

It takes four to five hours of walking to reach the very beautiful village of Phortse. Here you will stay with a Sherpa family. More than 23 Everest summiteers live in Phortse, and you may meet a lot of them during your stay. The village is famous for its tolerance and conservation of wildlife, so sights of deer and pheasants is common here.

  • Day 09: Trek Phortse to Namche Bazaar.

We now start our return form the Everest Region to trek about 3 hours to reach Namche Bazaar through Khumjung, a lovely village with excellent bakeries and restaurants.

  • Day 10: Trek Namche to Phakding.

A very long day walk can also be made to Lukla, but it is recommended to take an extra day to get there. From Namche, head to the end of the village and then immediately start to descend to the river. If going up was tough it is equally hard to get the footing and walk down hill. Head along the banks of the river and then further descend to Monjo for lunch. It is interesting to watch others starting enthusiastically on the trek ahead as we head down to our campsite at Phakding. Overnight at Phakding

  • Day 11: Trek Phakding to Lukla.

From Phakding, it is a surprising hard uphill climb to Lukla, which should take about 3 hours. It is a delightful ending to the trip as one enters into this busy village of Lukla.

  • Day 12: Fly Back to Kathmandu.

In the morning, we take the tiny aircraft to flight from Lukla to Kathmandu which is very interesting scenery flight journey on the earth. After arrival in Kathmandu airport we drive you to hotel.

  • Day 13: Free day in Kathmandu.

Today you have free day in Kathmandu for your own activities.

  • Day 14: Departure from Nepal.

Morning, you will be free. Afternoon we will drop you to the Kathmandu International Airport for the departure flight to home.
